Saudade - a Portuguese word that represents a feeling of longing, melancholia and nostalgia - is a semi-autobiographical still-image film based on my father’s life. The film was made using my father's personal photographic archive, a collection of approximately 2000 colour slides taken in the span of 20 years. The film is a reflection on how memory works, and how we experience it. It also shows the life of a man traveling in the second half of the 20th century from his perspective - not only through his photographs but also through conversations carried with the photographer (father) and me (his daughter) 30 years after.
